The Prince of Wales Stow Maries was opened in 1990 by Rob Walster, an expat from Hull who had co-founded the nearby Crouch Vale Brewery in South Woodham Ferrers.
There had been a pub on the site for many years, but it had fallen into disrepair before Rob’s extensive refurbishment. One surprise, in the back room, was the discovery of an old bakers oven, so clearly the building had served as a bakery in a former life. The wood fired stove is put to work preparing a wide range of hot dishes, including Rob’s almost legendary Pizzas on Thursday evenings in winter months.
Since its opening, The Prince of Wales has gained a reputation for serving an excellent range of real ales, good honest food, a raging log fire in the winter, and good entertainment.
The Prince of Wales has been voted South Essex CAMRA’s ‘Pub of the Year’ on several occasions. And also “MAD” Pub of the year.
The latest addition to The Prince of Wales, is the Green House and our deluxe Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
